Just a word of caution before you watch this film: SINGH IS KINNG is not for the intellectuals or those pretending to be one. It’s not for the hard-nosed critics either. Now read on…

Vipul Shah. Anees Bazmee. Akshay Kumar. Katrina Kaif. Four names for whom success has become a habit. That makes SINGH IS KINNG the most awaited movie of the season. Must add, the wait was worth it! You know the rules when you watch a hardcore entertainer: Just don’t look for logic. If you do, too bad for you, for you would never enjoy a film of this genre and more specifically, SINGH IS KINNG. Anees Bazmee’s films are very high on entertainment. Bazmee has the knack of making immensely watchable fares that cater to the aam junta.

SINGH IS KINNG isn’t a laughathon in entirety. Comedy, romance, action and drama, everything is well synchronised in those 2.10 hours here. But, wait, SINGH IS KINNG isn’t a foolproof product. It has its share of flaws, the turn of events aren’t captivating at times, but SINGH IS KINNG moves so fast and packs in so much, there’s no time to think or analyze. The final word? SINGH IS KINNG is a delicious and scrumptious pav-bhaji served in the finest cutlery. Your taste buds are sure to relish it… and ask for more!

Akshay Kumar takes rapid strides with SINGH IS KINNG. Sure, you’ve seen him in comic fares time and again and perhaps, there might be a doubt, Will he carry it off yet again? Oh yes, he does! There’s no saturation point as far as this actor is concerned. He holds your attention in every sequence, irrespective of how strong the scene is, and that’s the biggest compliment for any actor. SINGH IS KINNG without Akki is like an ocean without marine life. Akshay rules!

The camera loves Katrina Kaif and it shows in SINGH IS KINNG too. She looks bewitching and enacts her part with tremendous confidence.

On the whole, SINGH IS KINNG lives up to the hype and hoopla. Want a joyride without taxing your brains? Board the SINGH IS KINNG wagon. At the box-office, the film will fetch a hurricane-like start. The paid previews, the opening weekend, the first week business, everything will be record-shattering. Notwithstanding the new oppositions in the weeks to come, SINGH IS KINNG will rule the hearts of the aam junta [whose verdict matters the most] as also the box-office, proving a record holder in the final tally. Blockbuster Hit!

Thankfully, unlike Bazmi’s No Entry and Welcome, Singh is superbly silly but not tediously moronic. It’s not a series of episodes patched together. There is a semblance of a story here. Of course it's a totally illogical one.

The glue that holds Singh is Kinng together is Akshay Kumar. Akshay has a great, goofy charm that fits the role perfectly. But he also has an intrinsic cool quotient so Happy Singh is both: a virtuous son of the soil and a trendy turbanator. This is an actor in peak form. Singh is Kinng is a pedestrian film. There isn’t a flash of wit or elegance in it. Like Happy Singh, it’s basic, unpretentious and supremely content with itself. I recommend that you sit back and enjoy the ride.

There are films that are made with complete hard-bound scripts and then there are films which are made purely as commercially viable projects - clearly singh is king is one such project. A complete rip-off of the 1989 Jackie Chan starrer, Miracles, this one has current box office hottie Akhsay superstar Kumar in full form displaying his ample superstar prowess...donning a turban, wooing Katrina, also wooing the Punjabi audience in North India and Canada in the bargain, dancing to a few catchy numbers, cracking a few amiable jokes -- all of this, surrounded by a supporting cast comprising of the likes of Javed Jaffrey, Om Puri, Kirron Kher & Sonu Sood. The agenda is simple - make a time pass, family film and get in Akshay's die hard fans to do the rest. Compared to director Anis Bazmee's previous two efforts No Entry and Welcome, Singh Is Kinng is thankfully harmless fare. It gets in the laughs, stays away from any below the belt jokes and manages to entertain without giving you a headache! The show of course belongs to good old Akki - he entertains without being over the top, Katrina as usual looks gorgeous and simpers her way through the film. Kirron Kher stands out for her spunky performance and the rest of supporting actors including Neha Dhupia, Sudhanshu Pande, Om Puri & Javed Jaffrey are efficient. All in all, if you're looking for a typical masala entertainer this one is for you. The ENOW Weekend verdict for Singh Is Kinng is two and a half stars.

Singh Is Kinng is a film that has little or no regard for its audience. It’s the kind of movie whose makers couldn’t care less if you hated the film, fell asleep during the film, left the film in twenty minutes, or collapsed from a stroke midway through the film. They only care about the fact that you paid your two hundred bucks and bought your ticket. To hell with you after that.

Singh Is Kinng is the kind of film that simply doesn’t arouse any passionate response - I didn’t love it, and I didn’t hate it either. I just didn’t care. And there I think lies the failure of this film - few of the characters are even remotely interesting, the story can’t exactly be described as original, and the actors aren’t in their finest form either.

Akshay Kumar has an endearing goofiness to him and he’s the only reason you’re willing to give this film a chance. How you wish he'd use his popularity and his clout to do better films.

In the end, Singh Is Kinng is a dead zone of comedy. It might have been a time-pass film if the makers had made even the slightest of effort, but in its current form the only thing you can appreciate about it is the fact that it’s not terribly long. When the lights come back on in the end, you leave the hall completely emotionless. You just don’t care.

I’m going with two out of five for director Anees Bazmee’s Singh Is Kinng. I do hope the makers can afford swanky new BMWs from the money this film will invariably make. Someone should get something from this film, because the audience gets nothing.
